Six Tricks to Get the Most from Your Webinar


You'd think that attending a webinar, there's nothing to it, right? You just have to show up and pay attention. Voila! While that's the idea, there are a few things you can do to ensure you walk away with the information and knowledge you sought by attending the webinar in the first place.

Participate
We cannot stress enough how important this is. Ask questions if the subject matter is not clear. If it is not obvious, ask how the topic applies to your situation. Be involved in the session. You’ll get the information you need, and you’ll also remember a lot more of the material presented.

Talk Test
To be sure you can participate, call into the conference line or, if using the speaker option, make sure you have a microphone or headset. Most laptops come with a built-in microphone. If you do not have a microphone, there is a spot in the control panel to type questions or “chat” to the organizer. You can “chat” privately or to the whole audience.

Take notes
Taking notes, as you did throughout school, will help you remember key points and takeaways. Particularly if you ask questions, make a note of the answer.

Find a quiet environment
Attend the webinar from a quiet place. It’ll be easier for you to concentrate. This helps others too. Don’t be that person whose background noise everyone can hear.

Know your tools
Get familiar with the GoTo Webinar control panel. As noted above, this is where you can “chat”, or mute your phone or mic. You can minimize the control panel so it doesn’t cover the screen you are trying to see. If discussion is invited, you can “raise a hand” to speak. If poll questions are asked, this is where you’ll answer.
